How to Install CM 13 on Lenovo ZUK Z1

Lenovo ZUK Z1 is the latest Android Smartphone from Lenovo and it is powered by Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. If you own this device and want to enjoy CyanogenMod 13 based on Android 6 Marshmallow, then this tutorial is for you. In this tutorial we are going to install CyanogenMod 13 on Lenovo ZUK Z1 Smartphone and enjoy the features of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

This tutorial is only for Lenovo ZUK Z1 and should not be carried out on other devices. Before proceeding to install CM 13 on Lenovo ZUK Z1, we must follow the pre-installation instructions listed below to prepare Lenovo ZUK Z1 for the installation process.

Early Preparations:

1. Backup all the important data – SMS, Contacts, and Call Logs etc.
2. Enable USB Debugging on Lenovo ZUK Z1 from Developer Options.
3. Charge Lenovo ZUK Z1 to at least 75%, before proceeding with the installation process.
4. Unlock Bootloader on Lenovo ZUK Z1.
5. Install the suitable Lenovo USB Drivers on PC.
6. Install and Setup ADB and Fastboot drivers on PC.

How to install CyanogenMod 13 on Lenovo ZUK Z1:

Step 1: Download the CM 13 ROM, Gapps and recovery package from the above downloads section.

Step 2: Rename the CM 13 recovery to recovery.img and copy the Gapps & CM 13 ROM Package to the root of your device’s internal storage.

Step 3: Copy the recovery.img file to Fastboot folder and press and hold the shift key and right click inside the folder at the empty space and choose open command window here.

Step 4: Connect Lenovo ZUK Z1 to PC and issue the below command to boot into Fastboot Mode:

adb reboot bootloader

Step 5: Once the device boots into Fastboot Mode, issue the below command to flash the recovery file

fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash recovery recovery.img

Step 6: Now enter the below command to boot Lenovo ZUK Z1 into Recovery Mode

fastboot -i 0x2b4c oem reboot recovery

Step 6: From Recovery Mode install CM 13 ROM package followed by the Gapps package. How? Follow the instructions here.

Step 7: Reboot the device.
