This tutorial shows how to install CWM Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi 2 with simple and easy steps – complete guide
Xiaomi Redmi 2 was in the market for quite some time now and the device is exclusively sold on Flipkart, the India’s leading ecommerce seller. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is the budget Android Smartphone priced for just INR 6,999 and is the successor of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. The device comes with 4.7 inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. It is powered by 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Cortex-A53 processor combined with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage or 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage.
In this tutorial we are going to flash the CWM Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi 2, so that you can root your device, install Custom ROMs, Custom Kernel, and Zip Mods etc. So without any further ado let’s proceed to install CWM Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi 2.
Getting Prepared:
- Make a complete backup of all of your data to safe place.
Backup and Restore SMS
Backup and Restore Contacts
Backup and Restore Call Logs
Backup files on internal storage to PC
- Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on Xiaomi Redmi 2.
- Charge your device to at least 75%, before you proceed.
- Download and install Xiaomi USB Drivers on PC.
- Setup ADB and Fastboot drivers on PC.

How to Install CWM Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi 2:
Step 1: Download the CWM Recovery image file from here and rename it to recovery.img
Step 2: Copy the recovery.img file to Fastboot folder.
Step 3: Boot Xiaomi Redmi 2 into Fastboot / Bootloader Mode.
- Power off Xiaomi Redmi 2.
- Press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously until you see Fastboot Mode.
Step 4: Connect Xiaomi Redmi 2 to PC via OEM USB Cable.
Step 5: Now open command prompt inside the Fastboot folder.
- Open Fastboot folder.
- Press and hold Shift Key and right click inside the Fastboot folder at the empty space.
- Choose Open Command Window here from the list.
Step 6: In CMD Type the following commands and hit enter after each command:
fastboot devices
This command will show all the devices connected to PC in Fastboot mode.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This command will flash CWM Recovery image on Xiaomi Redmi 2.
fastboot reboot
This command will reboot Xiaomi Redmi 2 into normal mode.
That’s all now you have successfully installed CWM Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi 2. Check the installation by booting Xiaomi Redmi 2 into Recovery Mode, by pressing and holding Volume Up and Power buttons after turning it off.
