10 Steps to Root Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Install PhilZ Recovery – All Models

This tutorial shows how to install PhilZ Recovery and Root Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Android Smartphone – All Models

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is the latest Android phablet announced by Samsung along with Galaxy Note 5. It is similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge and carries differences in the Display size, RAM and Battery Capacity. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus comes with 5.5 Inch display, 4GB RAM and 3000mAh battery Capacity while the S6 Edge comes with 5.1 Inch display, 3GB RAM and 2600mAh battery capacity. Earlier we have shared a tutorial on how to Root Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and in this tutorial we are going to install PhilZ Custom Recovery and Root Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ was successfully rooted by Arter, an XDA member, who has also developed a custom PhilZ Recovery for S6 Edge+ and it can be flashed using Odin flash tool. The Dev has also developed a Custom Kernel which is need to be flashed using this Custom PhilZ Recovery in order to support the rooted system.

So without any further ado, let’s proceed and Install PhilZ Recovery and Root Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Android Smartphone.

Preparations:

1. As always before making any changes to your device, make a complete backup of your important data and settings.

Backup and Restore Contacts

Backup and Restore Call Logs

Backup files stored on internal storage to PC

2. Enable USB Debugging on Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
3. Enable OEM Unlock from Settings > Developer Options.
4. Charge Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to at least 75% before you proceed.
5. Install the required Samsung USB Drivers on PC.

How to Install PhilZ Recovery and Root Galaxy S6 Edge Plus:

Step 1: Download the required files from the above download section and copy the Kernel.zip and SuperSU.zip files to your device’s internal Storage.

Step 2: Run Odin Flash Tool as administrator on PC.

Step 3: Boot Galaxy S6 Edge Plus into Download Mode.

• Power off Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
• Press and Hold the Volume Down, Home and Power button simultaneously until you see Samsung logo.
• Now press the Volume Up to enter into Download Mode.

Step 4: Connect Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to PC using OEM Cable and wait for it to be detected by the PC.

Step 5: Once it is detected by Odin, click on AP and choose the Recovery file which is in .md5 format (ex: arter97-recovery-g928skl-3.6-philz_touch_6.59.0.tar.md5).

Step 6: Make sure that only ‘F.Reset Time’ is only checked and hit on Start to flash the recovery package on Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Step 7: Once you see the 'Done' or 'Pass' message in Odin, boot Galaxy S6 Edge Plus into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.

Step 8: Now from the PhilZ Recovery Choose Install Zip and flash the Kernel.zip and then SuperSU.zip.

Step 9: Reboot Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Step 10: Check for root permissions using Root Checker App.
