The update is being rolled out via OTA and comes with revamped UI with material design and offers smooth, enhanced and flat graphics. The update revamps most of the parts which includes notifications on lock screen, guest mode etc. it also improves the battery life a bit.

Prepare Xperia Z3 D6603:

• Backup your important data and settings to safe place.

Backup & Restore Contacts

Backup & Restore SMS

Backup & Restore Call Logs

Backup files stored on internal storage to PC

• Make sure Xperia Z3 is charged to at least 75% before you proceed with the update.
• Enable USB Debugging on Xperia Z3 D6603. How? Go here.
• Install Sony USB Drivers on PC.

How to update Xperia Z3 D6603 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 firmware:

Step 1: Download and Setup Sony Flash Tool on PC. (While installing Sony Flash Tool make sure to check Flashmode drivers and Fastboot drivers).

Step 2: Download the firmware package and make sure it is in .FTF format. If it is in .zip or .rar format extract it to a folder and obtain .ftf firmware package.

Step 3: Copy the firmware package to Flashtool > Firmwares folder.

Step 4: Run Flashtool.exe as administrator and click on the small lightening button in the top left corner and select Flashmode.

Step 5: Select the FTF firmware file, which you have copied to the Flashtool > Firmwares folder and on the right side choose what you want to wipe. It is recommended to choose all wipes.

Step 6: Hit OK, now the Flashtool will prepares firmware files for flashing on your device. This might take some time.

Step 7: Once all the firmware files are loaded, a popup appears asking you to connect your device in Flash mode.

Step 8: Connect Xperia Z3 D6603 to PC in Flashmode.

• Power off Xperia Z3 D6603.
• Press and hold the Volume Down button and connect it to PC. (Do not release the Volume Down key until the whole flashing process is done).

Step 9: As soon as Flashtool detects Xperia Z3 D6603 in Flashmode, flashing process begins.

Step 10: Once the flashing process is done release the Volume Down and disconnect from PC and reboot Xperia Z3.
